Wonderwall creates "Cabinet of Wonder" inside L/Uniform's new Paris boutique

Masamichi Katayama, the renowned principal designer of Tokyo-based design practice Wonderwall has cast his creative spell once again. This time, in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris, building a "Cabinet of Wonders" for L/Uniform's newest boutique.

L/Uniform's new Paris shop marks the brick and mortar debut of the French bag brand. Wonderwall's design concept for the retail space is based on the concept of “Cabinet of Wonders” to inspire curiosity throughout the store.

Inside, cabinets are installed on both walls that line the narrow space, where various types of bags with specific functionalities, such as school bags, tool bags, sports bags, etc... are randomly displayed.

The all-white space transitions into an all-wood space toward the back of the shop, where a small room is outfitted with perforated wood panels and parquet wood tiles. This tiny space functions as a bag customization area for patrons, a place where fabrics and finishes are meticulously hung from hooks in the perforated wall. The design envelopes the store with a small, museum-like atmosphere.
